A few weeks ago, Laurie from Simply Creating Home had me at Peek-A-Boo Valentines. Not only does she inspire with beautiful projects, but she tells you exactly how to do it! No thinking or figuring out what measurements to use required! So I'm referring you to her blog for the details of how to create this project.
If you haven't met Laurie yet, you've gotta go say hi! She is creative and also very friendly and kind. My to-do list currently consists of several of her Valentine projects. With only one day to go, looks like I'll be planning for next year!
Here's my version of her Peek-A-Boo Valentine Treat Bags. To keep my crafting budget to a minimum, my goal was to create Valentines using only supplies I already had at home. The only item I purchased was the M&Ms and somehow one bag of them grew legs and disappeared. I have a feeling more than one or two bellies in this house enjoyed those treats!
Laurie used a square punch for her Peek-A-Boo and some adorable stamps. The only punch I own is a decorative diamond punch I bought on clearance for cheap around Christmas, so I traced a circle and cut it out the good ole fashioned way with scissors.
I embellished with ribbon, stencils and paint, and scrapbook paper I dug out of my supplies. I also used small plastic bags I purchased a few years ago from Hobby Lobby for a baby shower and I stapled them closed after filling with the candy.
This project idea can be put to use year-round. I'm already planning to make these for a bridal shower I will be hosting in a few months using the colors of the wedding.
And now, since y'all know I'm all about keeping it real and humble, here is our kitchen table after an afternoon of crafting Valentines with the kids.
On a happy note, the kids made sweet little Valentines for their teachers with lots of "I Love You"! And since we had to eat dinner, I did actually clean off the table and get everything put away.
Here's to another day of happy Valentine crafting and creating!

Jessica, your valentine treats turned out beautifully! I love the pretty punch you used! It's perfect for Valentine's Day with all of it's lacey detail. I am humbled by your sweet write-up, and so appreciate all of the kind words. It looks like the kiddos had a wonderful time, and I have to admit that we "lost" a few M&M's each time we made them, too. :) Thanks again for the link back and kind words. ♥ ~ Laurie
ReplyDeleteYou're welcome Laurie and thank you for providing the inspiration! There must be a black hole somewhere with all the lost M&Ms!
DeleteJessica, these turned out lovely! I'm amazed that you were able to create them with things already on hand - - I think I need to raid your craft closet!
ReplyDeleteAnd that's so funny, we've had the same thing with bags of chocolate growing legs and walking off. So strange! ;-)
And you know I love knowing I'm not alone in my messes. You should see our coffee table right now: it's covered in laundry. Grin.
Hugs,
Lauren
Thanks Lauren! Well you know the state of my craft closet as I've described it before intermingled in my bedroom closet, but if you are brave enough you are welcome to raid away! Hugs right back to you.
DeleteJessica those came out so pretty! I just love them! And my kitchen usually looks like that all the time, we do way to many projects and I have craft stuff all over, glitter is the worst after we use it I even find it on all the animals. Thanks so much for sharing on We Made That!
ReplyDeleteYour valentine treat bags are so pretty. love the shot of the tabe after all your crafty fun with the kids :)
ReplyDeleteThose are the kinds of memories with your babies that you'll remember forever. Everything looks so sweet, so glad you shared it.
ReplyDeleteJessica, your treat bags are so pretty. The white bags look just perfect with those colorful M&M's inside.
ReplyDeleteThanks Lynn! We had such fun making them and I get so much great inspiration from Laurie over at Simply Creating Home!
DeleteSuch cute bags! They would come in handy as favors for just about any party! I can envision all different kinds of embellishments and colors done up like handbags for a ladies' luncheon! I'm not very crafty (because I'm lazy in general!), but I know YOU can do it!!! Your dining room table after the kids crafting looks like our living room every night after my husband finishes doing his patient charts. And, like you, I have to clean it up EVERY morning. In other words, he's just a big ol' kid!!! :-) I'm taking a little break again so that I can get a lot of much needed housework done before my upcoming surgery. It's about a month away now, and I want the house to be spic & span and nicely decorated since I'll be confined here for so long. That's me: a planner to the end!!! Have a great weekend! :-)
ReplyDeletelovely valentine treats
ReplyDeletemy kitchen table looks like that every afternoon (before dinner). Just me making the mess so far....yikes!
ReplyDeleteGlad to know I'm not alone! It seems many of us creative types need mess to produce great work!
