Spring Is Coming! Time to Dress Those Tables

The weather has been so amazing here this week that I'm really feeling the saying "a breath of fresh air", which for Texas means you can actually breathe because it's not 1000 degrees outside, a phenomenon that hits for approximately 2 days in the month of March before returning to hot with an extra helping of really hot.  And that is the week we've had: cool, crisp mornings, followed by sunny, warm afternoons, wrapped up with a touch of refreshing evening.  Ahhh, spring is in the air!

All this spring weather and the fun I had putting together my Easter printable reminded me that my poor naked dining room table was just calling out for some shades of pastel, bunnies, and eggs.  And when the table calls, I answer, as does my precious 3 year-old Miss K who welcomes any opportunity to accessorize, be it wild hair or playing table.

While not quite finished, here is the "so far" of our Easter table.  We went with some touches of whimsy to keep it fun for the little persons in the house.

Several years ago during an Easter season, I came home from work one evening to find my poor dining room which was in need of some TLC had been transformed by a tablescape fairy!  These adorable placemats were left behind by the fairy, who turned out to be my mom.  Who else loves me enough to sneak in and delight me with seasonal decor and shares my love of dressing a table?

I picked up a set of four egg candles years ago and have enjoyed them many a season.  This month they seem to have found a home in some vintage dessert cups that belonged to my grandmother.  Just hoping any unsuspecting guests realize they are candles and not a well crafted dessert.

The center egg (along with the one from the top picture) was made by my mother-in-law and her friends from church.  Each season they came up with a different egg design that was handmade by their group to be sold at the annual Eggstravaganza fundraiser for the church.  I'm so amazed at the different styles crafted each year for 20 years!

The little yellow bird soaps were a Goodwill find, 4 soaps for $2, but what I really liked was the cute container they were packaged in, which is in line for an upcoming project.

I've also enjoyed this bunny bowl for many years.  It's a Cracker Barrel find.  Does anyone else love shopping at the Cracker Barrel...I mean besides me and all my children?  Where else can you eat country cookin' and buy some inexpensive home decor and toys?

I hope our little Easter table is helping you get in the mood for spring, whether the weather feels like it or not at your home.

Well, I'm off to sew whiskers on mice.  Not to worry, it's not animal cruelty, just part of a fun little creation I hope to share with you in the next few days, so stay tuned.

What about you, have you started your Easter tables?

  1. Oooo...whiskers on mice? You have me very intrigued!

Jessica, this looks absolutely darling. And my favorite part was hearing the stories behind each piece. Although they've come from so many different places and people, you've arranged them all so beautifully, they look like were MFEO.

I think my favorite piece was that egg made by your mother-in-law. What a lovely tradition she has with her friends! It'd be fun to see a spread of the different eggs they have made over the years. #futureblogpostidea

    Another amazing tablescape, my friend!

    1. I knew the whiskers on mice would catch you...and no, it's not a skewed rendition of "My Favorite Things".

Thanks for the kind words on my table. I also like how it came together. There are many more spring pieces waiting for a space to liven up and if it was up to Miss K, they would have ALL been on that table!

#futureblogpostidea - that's a great one! I'll have to raid my MIL's Easter stash to showcase the years of beautiful Easter eggs.

  6. How sweet of your Mom to surprise you like that!!! If my Mom attempted something nice like that, I'd probably have to go bail her out of jail because she couldn't remember the password for the burglar alarm here!!! :-) :-) :-) You're off to a great start...can't wait to see the finished project! I keep forgetting Easter is so close. I'd better get a move on around here! have a good weekend!!!

  9. I love shopping at Cracker Barrel and I have a very large bunny that I purchased there that has the same face as your little one. I am pretty sure that they are related. Sadly, my Cracker Barrel informed me recently that they are a "Baby Barrel" and are not getting the same numbers of pretties that they once did. I hate that! Your mother was so sweet to leave you those wonderful placemats and I adore the "egg" idea that the church ladies have. Fantastic!
